Kristy Rebenchuk, BA, MSW, RSW Clinical Psychotherapist, EMDR
I strive to ensure you feel safe and respected. My practice is deeply rooted in a commitment to trust- building that I believe fosters strong connection. With sensitivity, curiosity (and gentle pushes), I guide you through that which impedes happiness and well-being, while equipping you with the resources to navigate any difficulties that arise. My predominant modality of practice is EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). The beauty of EMDR is in its effectiveness; it has been said that 1 year of EMDR is equivalent to 20 years of talk therapy. EMDR is a neurological intervention that involves working through a structured protocol that leads the client and therapist to a mutually determined ‘treatment plan’ that targets past memories that have led to the creation of negative beliefs we hold of ourselves. These negative beliefs (ex: I’m not good enough, I’m unloveable, etc.), sometimes unconscious, dictate how we ‘show up in the world’. EMDR works to eliminate the negative views we have held of ourselves and that have thus kept us ‘stuck’, allowing space for us to reframe how we see ourselves (ex: I’m good regardless, I’m loveable regardless).
I couple this modality with appropriate interventions as needed, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Self- Compassion, Internal Family Systems and Solution-Focused Therapy. I also find talk therapy has its place not only in relationship building, but also in delivering psychoeducation.
I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental space where you can express yourself freely and explore the areas of your life that matter most to you. I strive to demonstrate empathy and compassion in every session for you to feel genuinely supported. I work with clients of all ages, including young children (ages 6 and up), adolescents, teens, and adults. I understand that each stage of life comes with its own unique challenges and opportunities for growth. Whatever life stage you’re in, or situation you are experiencing that you feel are insurmountable, I am here to support you whatever stage you’re at.
I provide service both in person or virtually and am covered under most health insurance plans as a registered social worker. ($150/ hour, $180/ 90 minutes)
Finally, I believe hope can bring about great change. You are not alone. Let’s work together so you can heal, reconnect and cultivate the life you want and deserve. I look forward to walking alongside you on this journey.
